Salt Dough
Salt dough is such an easy and inexpensive way to create your own long-lasting Christmas decorations. And although it isn't meant to be eaten (it's very salty!), the ingredients are harmless, making it perfect for curious little hands and mouths. Here's what you need:
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1 cup cold water

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 120°C. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Combine flour and salt in a bowl. Add water a few tablespoons at a time, mixing well after each addition, until the dough comes together.
Step 2
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth. Wrap in glad wrap and let it rest for 20 minutes.

Step 3
Transfer dough to a floured work surface and knead until soft and pliable.
Step 4
Roll out the dough to about 3mm thickness. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters or a small, sharp knife.

Step 5
Transfer ornaments to the prepared baking paper. Use a straw or toothpick to make a small hole in each for hanging.
nb. If your shapes get a bit smushed in the transfer, you could cut them out on the baking paper instead
Step 6
Bake in the preheated oven until dry and hard, about 2 hours. Allow to cool completely before decorating.

⭐️ If you like a natural aesthetic, then you're almost done! Just tie them with the thread of your choice, and you have beautiful oatmeal-coloured decorations.
❤️ If you like colour and glitter and all that jazz - then go wild! Your imagination is your only limit.
