Questions

I have questions...

Simple answers to common questions about our services, facilities and support for your children and whole family. If there's anything we haven't covered please touch base via the button below.

Do I need a GP referral to come to PerVigeō?

No, we are happy to take self-referrals but you can also get a referral from a GP or another health care provider.

How do I make an appointment?

E-mail reception.chch@pervigeo.co.nz and we will get back to you within one working day.

What happens first?

Your first point of contact will be our Family Coordinator. They’ll guide you through the initial steps and set you up in our secure client portal. From there, they’ll share your information with our team so we can fully understand what you're looking for and how we can best support you.

What happens next?

We meet with you and your child for a comprehensive multi-disciplinary assessment involving a Developmental Psychologist, an Occupational Therapist, and a Speech and Language Therapist. If that sounds like a lot, don't worry, our team and our environment are very warm and friendly!

Why a multi-disciplinary assessment?

This collaborative approach is at the heart of what we do. It helps us build a well-rounded understanding of your child’s strengths and areas where they may benefit from additional support across key areas of development.

What is an Occupational Therapist (OT)?

A paediatric Occupational Therapist works with children, to understand the strengths and differences that may contribute to their ability to participate in everyday activities (traditionally referred to as ‘occupations’). By providing an assessment of sensory processing, motor-skills and social-emotional capacities; an OT offers a vital lens to understanding a child’s ability to self-regulate, communicate, move (including gross and fine motor skills), and engage in self-care and daily routines.

Do you have a Physiotherapist?

Yes we do. The clinical team may decide that input from a physiotherapist is needed. And with babies, often a physio will replace an OT for the assessment.

What happens after the assessment?

Following the assessment, you will receive a detailed report with clear, practical recommendations tailored to your child, including strategies for home and school, and suggestions for intervention.

Will my child receive a diagnosis?

Not necessarily. The developmental assessment is our starting point—it helps us understand your child’s strengths as well as any areas where additional support may be beneficial. From there, if we believe further assessment could provide valuable insights, we’ll guide you through those next steps. Our primary goal is to capture a clear picture of your child's developmental profile and their unfolding capacities. This allows us to provide thoughtful, tailored recommendations that support your child's continued growth and progress

If not, why is an assessment still helpful?

Our assessment is designed to help us understand the "why" behind any barriers to your child's participation in the things they need and want to do. This can vary so much from child to child, which is why we work as a team, in partnership with you, to bring all of our different ways of knowing together.

The assessment helps us to understand your child, so that we can create a support plan that builds on their strengths, honours their unique way of experiencing the world, and supports their growth in a respectful and meaningful way.

This includes practical strategies for home, preschool or school, alongside focused intervention that supports your child to participate, connect, and thrive — always tailored to what works best for them and your family.

How much is a session?

The pricing differs by age group for an assessment, and then different again for interventions. Please see Sessions and rates.

How do I pay?

Our preferred payment method is by credit card. Prior to your first appointment please securely enter your card details via the client portal.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please pack a light snack and a water bottle for your child just in case they need a quick energy boost during the session. We have tea and coffee available if parents also need an energy boost!

What might an intervention session look like?

Our intervention sessions are relationship centred and play-based. We carefully observe so that we can follow your child's need and we weave in our playful invitations to match their interests. Sometimes it might look like we are "just playing", but we are always noticing, adjusting and responding in-the-moment with the right level of challenge for your child.

We work in a partnership model, so you are present with your child in our sessions, and there is often a back-and-forth flow between all of us.

Some sessions might involve only the caregiver(s), and these look a little different (but you are still welcome to play with the fidgets or snuggle the weighted animals, if you want to!)

If my child has an assessment done at PerVigeō then do I also have to complete the treatment through PerVigeō?
