Interventions
Once you have a better understanding of what is going on for your child, we can then help put a plan into action to support them, and you.
Targeted Sessions
Psychology
Providing targetted support for areas identified during our assessment or prior assessments
Co-develop strategies to help manage behavioural challenges or social difficulties.
Speech and Language Therapy (SLT)
Functional communication
Development of language skills
Speech clarity
Social skills
Alongside this you will be given suggestions and activities to do at home to support your child's development.
These sessions can also support feeding / eating and drinking challenges.
Typically these sessions would involve both you and your child but could also be a parent coaching session to problem solve day-to-day communication challenges at home.
These sessions are generally at our practice but home and / or school visits are also part of our process.
Sensory Integration Occupational Therapy (OT)
Using movement and play-based activities, a session with you, your child and our specialist OT in our gym. This will focus on rewiring your child's sensory system to:
Improve how their brain processes, organises and responds to sensory input (e.g. sights, sounds, textures)
Support their nervous system to manage overwhelm or under stimulation.
Improve self regulation, attention and fine/gross motor skills
Teach you how to support your child's sensory needs at home and school
Multi Clinician Sessions
Because our team are set up to work together we can provide sessions where more than one clinician works with your child, either:
Multi-Disciplinary
These sessions start with one clinician and then halfway through the session the other clinician will take over.
For example, a 60 min session where half the session is with a speech and language therapist and half with a developmental psychologist; so you can work on multiple aspects of development in one visit.
Inter-Disciplinary
These sessions have two clinicians throughout, working together to build your child's skills and guide parents / caregivers.
For example a 60 min session with both a sensory integration OT and an SLT; so that you and your child can work on multiple aspects of development in one session using integrated activities that replicate daily life..
Specialised Interventions

Speech & Language for Children with Down Syndrome
Speech and Language skills continue to progress for children with Down Syndrome well into adolescence.
Ongoing therapy can play a vital role in supporting children to reach their potential and build relationships through -
Functional communication
Development of language skills
Speech clarity
Social skills
During a specialist session, Lee will come to your child's school, work 1:1 with them and then liase with both the school team and with parents to provide strategies and ongoing focus goals.
These sessions can also take place at PerVigeō if that is easier for your family.

Preschool / School Support Visits
'Better Together' means supporting your child at school, as well as home.
School staff in New Zealand receive limited training in how to set children with complex needs up for success. Not just to reach their potential academically, but also to manage the demands of social interactions, transitions and other high stress moments.
We come into school and work with your child's teaching team so they:
Understand what is going on for your child
Have the tools to put in place supports that work practically in the classroom and help your child move successfully through their day
Understand how to manage the situation if things don't go well, to better support your child through those moments
Costs for these sessions normally include travel time and km, and they differ if the school is in the Christchurch area vs the wider Canterbury area.
We try to keep costs low so if we can combine school sessions so you share costs with another family, we will.

Bespoke Needs
Every child is unique so we also provide tailored support for you and you child.
Costs are based on your child's needs but common options are:
Support at Individualised Development Plan (IDP) meetings
Conference calls with other specialists
Letters to specialists
Home visits
Paediatric physio
Development of resources for you to use at home, such as daily planners.
